Corruption of Azim
Order of Scions University
World-renowned for its libraries, instructors, and its unwavering support for all things Validran, this is the largest university on Calinor and is the most prominent building in the city of Aelhaim. Sadly, in recent decades it has become more a sign of prominence to have graduated from it, changing its purpose slightly from pure magical education to also being means of social advancement. “Graduation” is now a combination of magic talent and bribery or connections. A philosophy that wizard magic is for the higher economic castes seems to be developing among the staff, students, alumni, and sponsors, who are largely Validran nobility. Xenophobia is even beginning to creep in, since most of the Validran nobility are human.
The system of education is fast and loose, allowing the apprentices of the Order to progress at their own pace. Once a year the final tests are administered, and all who pass are granted the title “Magus,” given an official Order of Scions ring, and graduate from formal study.
Graduates are usually appointed as court mages, advisors to nobility, or even sometimes other offices as the need arises. Many of these appointments require no actual use of magic. Secondary appointments include being drafted to the military, though this is still considered quite honorable. Those who aren’t given official appointments are simply tasked with upholding the law of the Kingdom of Validras and maintaining the good name of the Order of Scions. These wandering wizards may be officially employed by the Order, but typically are just let loose.
